Where were you born? Year, Country, State. Where do you live currently
I live in Castro Valley, which is outside of Oakland, California. Suburban and domesticated.
What initially drew you to drawing pretty pictures
I grew up reading comic books and Mad magazine. I always thought I would draw comic books and quickly realized I couldn't draw muscular men and large breasted women. All my art looks like a dumpy fat guy with a mustache.
Who is your favorite skateboarder, living or dead? Any ties to skateboarding
I was a fat kid who fell in the first ten minutes of riding a skateboard. But weirdly enough, I hung out with some amazing skaters, and watched hours of skate videos. My favorite skater is probably Kareem Campbell, I was into graffiti and hip hop, so all the videos from those days were almost like mixtapes. Kareem always had great music in his parts.
When you're not creating amazing works of art, what do you enjoy doing
I love hanging out with my wife, Kellie and my 3 year old son, Bigby. I host a podcast called The Geek Savants, which touches on things other "geek" podcasts won't, we have been doing it for over 7 years.
Who are your biggest influences
IMy mother and my wife. They both had to overcome tough times when they were young and it is inspiring to be around two strong people.
What mediums do you enjoy working in?
I love watercolor and colored pencil, when I sketch I enjoy using ballpoint pen. I like messy instruments, stuff that doesn't have to be clean and polished.
Anything else you want to tell?
I would love for people to check out more of my art at thesuperugly.com, or at Instagram @superugly. I have been trying to make a go of art as a career, but need people to spread the word about my art and continue to support Super Ugly.
