Mai Ja

Where were you born? Year, Country, State. Where do you live currently?

1986, Finland. I live currently in Tampere, Finland.

What initially drew you to drawing pretty pictures?

I've been drawing since I could hold a pen. It just came naturally to me. I don't remember a day when I decided that "I wanna draw!" I just always did. I love it, it's my whole world.

Who is your favorite skateboarder, living or dead? Any ties to skateboarding?

uh...Well the only skateboarder I know is Tony Hawk sooooo...I'm gonna go with him? He's still alive right? No ties to sakteboarding what so ever. Though my hat is off to those people cos they defy pain and death every day in ways I couldn't even dream of. Hell I see my own death when I walk down the stairs. You have my utmost respect.

Who is your favorite artist, living or dead?

There's a lot of artists..hmmm..Well I love Frida Kahlo and ofc. Mark Ryden, James Jean, Jeff Soto. The list goes on forever. Oh oh Junko Mizuno is amazing I adore her...Well there's a few. Pretty sure I left out about a hundred other artists I adore.

When you're not creating amazing works of art, what do you enjoy doing?

I like watching documentaries about astronomy and astrophysics etc..I love playing table top rpg's..and boardgames. I also love playing video games. And starting up archery again. I also spend a lot of time sitting at home laughing at my own jokes.

Who are your biggest influences?

Biggest influences..Hmmm..The voices in my head I suppose..hehe..just kidding. Or am I? Music, photographs, movies..Anything that triggers an inspiration really. Lately I've been staring at pictures of mushrooms a lot. Those have been really inspiring and the next painting I'm doing is gonna have a lot of mushrooms. I think..We'll see. Did you know there's actually glow in the dark mushrooms? Well there is. I talk too much.

What mediums do you enjoy working in?

I love using acrylics. I also do digital paintings from time to time. There are periods when I do just digital and periods when I do just traditional. Lately it's been more traditional paintings.

Anything else you want to tell?

I think I've said too much already. You'll probably need to edit that a lot.. Sorry.
